Conus (Conasprella) palmbeachensis (Petuch, 1994)
Description (2): Shell of average size for genus, stocky, rotund, distinctly pyriform; shoulder sharply-angled, carinated; spire moderately-elevated, pyramidal; body whorl sculptured with 12-14 large, deeply-impressed spiral sulci; spiral sulci become wider toward anterior end of body whorl; aperture narrow.
Holotype: UF66440, Length 25 mm.
Type Locality: Bermont Fauna, from
North New River Canal dredging, 20 miles south of South Bay, Palm Beach County.
Remarks: Conus palmbeachensis is to most similar the younger, stratigraphically-higher C. jaspideus Gmelin, 1791 (Plate 94, Figure N) from the Fort Thompson and Recent faunas, but differs in being a broader, more pyriform shell with a much more rounded shoulder, and in having more widely-separated spiral sulci on the body whorl.
Etymology: Named for Palm Beach County.
Hendericks considera il Conus palmbeachensis sinonimo del Conus jaspideus.
